Restylane is a family of hyaluronic acid gels built on two different technologies, one firm and one flexible. At our Phoenix boutique, Tasha Wright Ford, RN picks between them on what the area has to do. Structure and movement are not the same problem.
The Range
The firmer gels in this range hold their shape rather than spreading, which is what a flat midface needs. Placement restores the projection light falls on. Tasha assesses how far the cheek has descended before she treats it.
Cheek fat pads move downward and the bone beneath them recedes, so the midface loses height and the lower face reads heavier.
What to expect, step by step
Day 1
Immediate result with swelling on top of it. Restylane comes in a firm line and a flexible line; the one chosen for your area decides how it moves, not how today feels.
Weeks 1-2
Swelling clears and the gel settles into the tissue. The flexible gels are built to move with expression, so this is when they start looking like part of the face.
Months 6-18
How long it holds depends on the gel and the area. Lips and mobile areas go sooner; cheeks and structure hold longer. We name the likely range for yours at the two-week review.

Under the eye and across the lip border, a gel that is too firm shows as a ridge or a bluish cast rather than a correction. We would rather under-treat a delicate area and review it than have to dissolve it.

Every filler plan starts with a complete health history. Medications, blood thinners, prior filler, autoimmune conditions and pregnancy all change what is appropriate. Dr. Anna Mkrtchyan, Naturopathic Medical Doctor (NMD), is our Medical Director.

Hyaluronic acid, a sugar your body already produces, held in a gel. Restylane builds that gel two ways: one holds a firm defined shape, the other flexes with expression. The technology behind each product is what decides where it belongs on your face.
Firmness and behavior. The firmer gels resist spreading, which is what cheeks, chin and jaw need to hold projection. The flexible gels bend when you talk, which is what folds and lips need. Tasha explains which one she is placing and why before anything is opened.
Both are hyaluronic acid families, made by different companies using different gel technologies. They hold and move differently under skin, so one can suit an area better than the other. Our Juvederm page covers that range. Tasha chooses between them on assessment rather than habit.
Restylane makes gels intended for the under-eye, and it is one of the harder areas on the face to place well. Candidacy depends on skin thickness, how much midface support you still have, and fluid behavior. Our Restylane under-eye page covers it in full, including when we say no.
Yes. Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with an enzyme, which is a real safety advantage in delicate areas. Dissolving is a treatment in its own right and needs its own assessment. Collagen stimulators such as Sculptra and Radiesse do not behave this way.
It depends on which gel was placed, the layer it sits in, how much the area moves, and how quickly your body clears it. A firm gel in a still area behaves differently to a soft gel in a lip. Tasha gives you a realistic window for your plan at the consultation.
Hard exercise, heat, alcohol and pressure on the area are the usual four in the first stretch. In Phoenix the pool and the sauna are the ones patients forget. Your written aftercare sets out the timing, and questions afterwards go to 602-469-8693.
